ARTIST STATEMENT

I make oil paintings of scenes from movies that were never made.

 

I have always been drawn to cinema. To the moments that make you stop and wonder what happened right before. A look between two people. Someone sitting alone in a room. The second before a choice changes everything. I love when an image gives you a feeling without explaining itself.

 

My paintings are pieces of stories that do not fully exist yet. Sometimes they stand alone. Sometimes they come in sets of three, like a storyboard from an unwritten film. I never want to give every answer. I want people to look at the work and talk about it. The audience decides who these people are, what they have been through, what they are hiding, and what might happen next.

 

I think of every painting like a frame from a film. The lighting, the composition, the tension, the emotion sitting underneath the surface, all combining into a subjective storyline. I want the brushwork, the texture, and even the imperfections to stay visible. I want the painting to feel lived in.

 

Tattooing has shaped a lot of how I see images. It taught me that art can hold a memory, a person, a loss, a dream, or a version of yourself that you do not want to forget. Painting is where I get to build entire worlds around that feeling.

At the end of the day, I want to make work that stays with people. Something that feels familiar even when they cannot explain why. Like a scene from a movie they swear they have seen before except the story is theirs to create.
